This week's plant was Ti Plant which has many varieties. I believe that we have Cordyline fruticosa featured in this video which is a Red Sister variety. Since we did not plant this Ti Plant, I am basing this ID on color and what is normally available in nearby nurseries.

Ti Plant is an easy to grow tropical shrub here in Central FL. It is a great tall growing plant with unique foliage that adds year-round color to Florida landscapes. It is perfect for a tropical themed landscape or even for shady areas that you want to add pink and purple color to. It is easy to care for as it doesn't typically need supplemental irrigation. It is also great in that it enjoys shade which is a great way to add color to shady areas. Because it can grow to heights of 5 feet, it also makes a great plant to add a tiered look to your landscape.
Ti Plant does have some drawbacks. It can be susceptible to root-knot nematodes which can be a nuisance in Florida's sandy soils. It also can host scale insects and be attacked by nocturnal snails. All of these pests can make this plant appear less desirable and require chemical management to remove these pests.
We hope you enjoyed this week's #WhatIsItWednesday . Make sure you stay tuned in for future posts so you can have another chance at winning the $10 prize.
See you..........................................
