American Beautyberry is an awesome Florida native shrub. It is best grown as an understory plant and really enjoys being surround by other plants it can prop up on. It will need the help when it gets loaded with berries in the fall. These berries are a favorite among birds and make great chicken food. You can also make a jam out of the berries. Native Americans used this plant to create a bug repellant and you can find recipes online that teach this process.
Beautyberry is a long-lived perennial that will bloom and fruit in Florida's fall. You may see some die back if there is a cold winter. But, Beautyberry makes a rebound without any help. In south Florida, Beautyberry may act as a true evergreen perennial. In central Florida, it just depends on the winter.
Beautyberry prefers being planted in location that doesn't go through extended periods of drought. Supplemental irrigation can extend the range of where it can be planted. Like previously stated, it prefers and understory that the plant can prop on and live in a microclimate suitable for the it to be a perennial.
The flowers attract a wide vareity of pollinators. The berries attract native birds and make a great chicken feed. It hosts the spring azure and snowberry clearwing butterflies.

Plants are only shipped on Mondays and Tuesdays. This is to avoid plants sitting at a post office or warehouse over a weekend and reducing shipping stress on plants. Plants arrive healthier and quicker when you select faster shipping such as priority shipping. Plants ship from Florida. Keep that in mind when deciding to buy and selecting shipping options.
Seed packets ship any day of the week and are commonly shipped in envelopes paid by stamp. There will be no tracking information for seed packets shipped in this way. Customers will be notified when seed packets are sent.
