Coriandrum sativum is the the name of the plant that both Cilantro and Coriander come from with the names referring to the harvested part of the plant. Cilantro refers to the harvested leaves and stems. Coriander refers to the harvested seeds. However, most gardeners use either of these common names to refer to this plant. We use Cilantro all the time, so we use it as the common name.

This specific variety is called Santo and is an annual slow bolting variety providing longer harvest periods of cilantro but longer waiting periods for coriander. Slow-bolting plants are an absolute must in warm areas. Cilantro can bolt as early as 1-2 weeks here in Central Florida during spring and summer. This Santo variety helps extend the growing season from early spring till early summer depending on the year's temperatures.

Cilantro is cold sensitive and performs best in temperatures between 50-85 degrees. As temps get warmer, keeping the plant in more shade can help prevent it from going to seed and the flavor changing.

Native to the Mediterranean

Likes full sun the most but typically plant in partial or most shade to extend harvest season.

Prefers moist well drained soil best achieved in containers or raised beds.

Typically grows 12-15" tall. The taller it reaches the more likely it is to go to seed.

Can be grown in zones 2-11 as an annual.
