The 'x' in Thymus x citriodorus (lemon thyme) signifies that it is a hybrid species. It indicates that the plant is a cross between two different species of thyme, specifically Thymus pulegioides (broad-leaved thyme) and Thymus vulgaris (common thyme).
Lemon Thyme can replace traditional Thyme when looking for a zesty twist. It is also a great addition to flavoring poultry, seafood, and roasted vegetables. Add it to marinades, sauces, and teas for additional uses.
Lemon Thyme grows best for us in Central Florida in the cooler months of fall-spring. It can be affected by humidity in our summer months and typically needs soil to completely dry out between waterings. You can try and extend the growing season by keeping Lemon Thyme in partial sun to partial shade and growing in containers that allow good drainage to prevent root rot.
