Okinawa Spinach is an ideal leafy green for any garden or food forest. In Florida, it can be grown all year. The leaves are a dark green with a purple belly bringing unique color contrasts in foodscapes. We like growing this plant as a low lying hedge in shady areas. Fall orange blooms also add a nice color to an almost dormant landscape.
This perennial spinach is truely a good food forest or foodscape food source. It grows quickly and in lots of different conditions. When you harvest, take 6" clippings. Remove all the leaves for your kitchen, and then place the clipping in a cup of water to root another plant. You will have a true "forest" of okinawa spinach soon!
