African Potato Mint is a food forester's dream plant. Not only is this a great green mulch or live ground cover... but it also provides food! When in bloom, the flowers draw in loads of pollinators. The leaves can be eaten but do not contain a minty flavor as the name suggests. What you are really looking for is the tubers that grow underneath! African Potato Mint will spread in a small garden bed much less than other tubers like sweet potatoes. Best planted in spring for a fall/winter crop. The tubers are small in size. Continuously replant and add them to your food forest for a great ground cover, pollinator attractor, and edible plant!
