Redbeckia mollis, or Softhair Coneflower is a FL native plant while also being native to parts of Georgia and Alabama. Our plant is a FL ecotype. This means it has the best growth and most likely to self seed if grown in Florida. 
 
This coneflower is awesome for native landscapes. It can reach a height of around 3 feet, making it a great back row flower when intermixed with other wildflowers. The flowers are similar to Black-eyed susans. It reseeds itself very easily, a good trait as the plant typically dies after the blooms are done. In addition to adding color and height to a garden, it also attracts a variety of pollinators. 
 
Hosts the silvery checkerspot butterfly.
 
Native to FL, GA, and AL.
Naturally found in North FL. 
Grows best in full sun. Does not tolerate full shade. 
Prefers well drained, even sandy soils. 
It can tolerate some drought. 
Mealybugs can be a problem. 
Grows in zones 8B through 11.
